World-class Mountain Biking
Something very special for mountain bikers can be found in the forests of South Scotland.
The seven ‘7stanes’ routes, acknowledged as the amongst the best in the world, together offer over 160 km of fantastic blue, red and black graded forest biking, much of it along purpose built singletrack. Most sites also have freeride and skills areas to practise your technique.
The location, accommodation and equipment provided in the Thistle Lodges make them ideal for large or small mountain biking groups or adventure seeking families.
Mountain Biking from Thistle Lodges
Close to five 7stanes
Centrally located for five of the 7stanes, with Dalbeattie on the doorstep and Mabie, Ae and Kirroughtree easily reached by car.
Family Mountain Biking
Several of the 7stanes sites, including the nearest at Dalbeattie and Mabie, have blue and green graded routes ideal for families and those new to mountain biking
Group Accommodation
The lodges sleeps up to eight people, but for groups of singles there are six separate beds in each (two doubles and four singles) – that’s 18 beds across all three lodges.
Bike Storage and Tools
All three lodges have large basement areas where up to eight bikes can be securely stored. Hoses, repair stands, pumps and basic tools are all provided for use at the lodges.
The Beagle
Dine inside or in the covered courtyard at the on-site ‘Beagle’. Good food every evening from a wide menu, and a good range of real ales and lagers . Visit website.
Recovery Time
A few minutes walk away is an onsite swimming pool, available free of charge on an exclusive use basis for your group (book in advance). If it’s warm then the beach isn’t much further.
